The two airports of the Bucharest City have reported a record number of 8.46 million passengers in the first six months of 2026, up 5.08%fro the same period of 2025, the Bucharest National Airports Corporation (CNAB) announced on Wednesday.
„The Bucharest National Airports Corporation consolidates its status as Romania’s main aviation hub. Traffic data for the first six months of this year indicate a significant increase; thus, the two airports of the capital city – Henri Coanda Bucharest International Airport and Bucharest Baneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, reported a record number of 8,459,576 passengers, 5.08% more than in the same period of 2025,” reads a press release from the company, agerpres reports.
The increase in air traffic was also reflected in the number of aircraft movements. In the first half of the year, 68,367 landings and take-offs were recorded, 3.37% more than in January-June 2025.
„The results we have obtained are effects of the new managerial strategy, oriented towards attracting new airlines, expanding the number of routes operated from Bucharest, increasing the operating frequencies on existing routes and, last but not least, optimising the quality and safety of the airport infrastructure,” CNAB Director General Bogdan Mindrescuis quoted as saying in a statement.
According to CNAB, Henri Coanda Airport passed the threshold of 7.7 million passengers, but the absolute record is held by Baneasa Airport, which reached, in the first half of the year, 745,674 passengers, 50,956 more than the total number of passengers registered at this airport during the entire year 2025.
„The National Corporation Bucharest Airport reports a solid and sustainable growth, with the priority of CNAB’s management being to ensure the optimal conditions for this development, with major concern to maintain the strictest standards of safety and security of passengers and air operations at the airports of the capital city,” said Mindrescu.
